Fewer materials.

Better resolved.

Skandilo works with a deliberately limited material palette selected for durability, responsible sourcing, and long-term visual relevance. We use certified wood, high-performance upholstery materials, sustainably produced expanded cork, and selected European marbles. The aim is simple: fewer materials, better resolved.

Wood

We use certified European ash, European walnut, and American walnut, each selected for distinct structural and visual qualities.

Care essentials

Wood is a living material. It responds to light, humidity, and temperature — and it changes over time. That is part of its character, not a defect.

For daily cleaning, a soft cloth lightly dampened with warm water is enough. Wipe dry immediately after. Avoid detergents, abrasive products, and strong household cleaners. Wipe up spills as soon as they happen, and use coasters, placemats, and trivets to protect the surface from heat and moisture.

Keep wood away from direct heat sources and prolonged sunlight. The ideal indoor humidity is between 30 and 60 percent — very dry or very damp conditions can cause movement or cracking over time.

In the first months of use, try to leave larger surfaces relatively uncovered so the wood tones evenly as it adjusts to light exposure.

For deeper scratches or finish damage, professional repair is recommended.

Marble

Our stone palette is limited to two high-quality European marbles: Marquina Nero from Spain and Statuarietto and Arabescato from Italy.

All three are selected for density, permanence, and natural variation. At Skandilo, marble is treated as a lasting architectural material rather than a decorative surface.

Care essentials

Marble is durable, but porous and sensitive to acids, strong cleaners, impact, and sudden heat. All Skandilo marble pieces are sealed before delivery — sealing reduces the risk of staining, but does not make the surface impermeable.

For daily cleaning, use a soft cloth with mild soapy water or a pH-neutral cleaner for natural stone. Dry the surface after cleaning to prevent water marks. Remove dust and debris regularly — left on the surface, they act abrasively over time.

Wipe up spills immediately, especially acidic or strongly coloured substances such as citrus, vinegar, wine, coffee, and alcohol. Always blot rather than rub. Always use coasters, placemats, and trivets. Never cut directly on marble and never place hot cookware on the surface. Do not sit, stand, or kneel on marble surfaces — it is not designed to bear concentrated point loads. Handle edges with care, as they are the most vulnerable part.

Over time, marble may need resealing. If water no longer beads on the surface and instead darkens the stone quickly, resealing is likely needed. For deep scratches, heavy staining, or etching, professional stone restoration is recommended.

Each marble piece varies in colour and veining. Samples indicate the general material — not the exact pattern of the finished piece.

Leather

Skandilo uses top grain pigmented European bovine leather. It is embossed and approximately 1.1–1.2 mm thick, which gives it a controlled surface appearance and the durability required for everyday use. It is selected for its balance of softness, consistency, and wear resistance in both residential and professional interiors. It also meets multiple fire-resistance standards, including Regulation 118/2UNE EN 1021 1&2California Technical Bulletin 117-2013, and IMO MSC.307 (88) appendix 1 part 8

Care essentials

Skandilo uses top grain pigmented bovine leather — selected for durability, comfort, and a consistent surface appearance. The pigmented finish adds protection and makes it well suited to everyday use. As a natural material, subtle variation in grain and tone is part of its character.

For daily care, dust or wipe the surface regularly with a soft, dry, undyed cloth. If slightly soiled, a lightly dampened, well-wrung cloth is sufficient. When cleaning a mark, wipe the full surface or panel rather than one isolated spot — spot cleaning may leave visible differences in tone or sheen. Blot spills immediately, never rub. After any cleaning, dry gently and allow to air naturally.

Leather should not be overtreated. Conditioners and creams should be used sparingly and only when genuinely needed — overuse may darken the surface or alter the finish. Avoid bleach, solvents, abrasive cleaners, and strong household products. Keep leather away from direct sunlight, radiators, and other heat sources.

With regular gentle care, the leather will soften slightly over time and develop a lived-in character while retaining its protective surface. For major staining, colour transfer, or visible finish damage, professional leather care is recommended.

Fabric

Our upholstery fabrics are selected for both tactile quality and technical performance. Elle, produced in Italy, is a jacquard upholstery fabric composed of polyacrylic, cotton, viscose, wool, and nylon. It offers approximately 70,000 Martindale rubslightfastness 6–7, and pilling 4–5, making it suitable for long-term use where softness and durability must coexist. It is also REACH compliantGreenguard Gold certified, and supported by a Health Product Declaration (HPD).

Care essentials

Regular care is the most effective way to preserve the appearance and lifespan of textile upholstery. Dust and dirt embedded in the fabric gradually increase wear over time.

Vacuum upholstery frequently — ideally once a week — using a soft attachment. Rotate loose cushions regularly to distribute wear evenly, and shake soft-filled cushions to help them retain their shape. Avoid concentrated pressure on seats, arms, and backrests, and never stand on upholstered surfaces, as this affects the filling and structure over time.

For spills, speed matters. Blot immediately with a clean dry cloth — never rub, as this may damage fibres or spread the stain. For light non-greasy marks, dab gently with a cloth lightly moistened with warm water, working from the outer edge inward. For greasy stains, use a suitable textile stain remover, always tested first on a less visible area. Allow the fabric to dry fully before use.

Avoid soaking, steam cleaning, solvents, bleach, ammonia, and any cleaning products intended for hard surfaces. Protect from prolonged direct sunlight and heat sources. Note that dyes from non-colourfast clothing — such as dark denim — may transfer onto fabric and can be difficult to remove fully.

A faint scent from new upholstery materials is normal and will fade with time and ventilation. For heavy staining or structural issues, professional cleaning is recommended.

Cork

We use sustainably produced expanded cork from Portugal. It is included in the material palette for both environmental and technical reasons. Expanded cork is lightweight, dimensionally stable, and naturally insulating, while also offering a warm, soft, and low-gloss surface character. In the Skandilo context, it works as a balancing material: tactile, calm, and honest, with a lower-impact material profile than many synthetic alternatives.

Care essentials

Cork is a natural material valued for its warmth, softness, and tactile surface. Durable in normal use, it requires gentle handling and protection from excessive moisture and harsh treatment.

For daily care, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth. For routine cleaning, wipe with a slightly damp cloth and dry the surface immediately. If needed, a small amount of mild soap can be used — wipe clean and dry straight after.

Wipe up spills as soon as possible using as little moisture as necessary. Do not allow liquids to sit on the surface. Avoid placing hot items directly on cork and protect the surface from sharp objects and heavy impact.

Do not soak cork or use abrasive pads, bleach, solvents, alcohol-based products, or strong detergents. Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight and strong heat sources, as these may dry the material or cause fading over time.

For deeper scratches, dents, or finish damage, professional assessment is recommended.

Sustainability and craftsmanship

Fewer materials, better resolved. Responsibly sourced, precisely made, and designed to last for decades. Every curve and junction is resolved with the same discipline because for us, honest materials and quiet craftsmanship are not qualities added at the end. They are where everything begins.
